Beskar is back on Grand Theft Audio with his first full EP - and he’s brought the equally chaotic Ominous along for the ride. The Tonic EP boasts four tracks of heavy dancefloor Drum & Bass, made with love, rage, and more than a little Buckfast.
Because while some artists pour their heart out over a breakup, a baby, or some deep spiritual journey... Beskar and Ominous have gone full Scotland and written a love letter to tonic wine. A whole EP about Bucky. And honestly it SLAPS.
Kicking off the madness is Unscrew It - fresh from the Toronto Is Broken UK tour, Sebotage lends his vintage vocal talents to the EP’s intro track. Trippy trap vibes set the stage before it launches face-first into a chaotic DnB drop that'll rattle your skull harder than a shot of Buckfast to the eyeball.
Next up, the title track The Tonic doesn’t mess about. All killer, no filler, it gets straight to the point with gut-punching bass and syncopated drums that sound like they’re trying to break free out of the speakers. It’s raw. It’s loud. It’s going to destroy any dancefloor.
Track three, The Monks, tips a nod to the legendary French monks who first brewed the infamous juice down in Devon. This one’s a bit more of a creeper at first - with ominous (‘scuse the pun) sounds slowly building before it erupts into warped bass stabs and clattering drums that pack a serious punch.
Closing out the EP is “Wreck The Hoose Juice” - yes, it’s spelt correctly, don’t @ us. This one sees Beskar and Ominous fully unleashed, going nuts with wild glitchy switch-ups, head-spinning sound design, and energy levels somewhere between a fire alarm and a pisshead at closing time.
If you're after subtle background music for a dinner party, this ain’t it. But if you want the soundtrack to necking a bottle of Buckie and waking up in a different postcode, The Tonic EP has you covered.
